We are experts in mental health who offer hope with an innovative understanding.

We are Bill and Linda Pettit, a husband and wife team with a wealth of clinical experience, who believe that everyone is capable of complete mental health.

In our years of working as a psychiatrist and a psychologist, we’ve found that sharing a spiritual understanding of mental well-being offers hope, and the potential to heal from even the most traumatic or stressful psychological experience.

This spiritual approach — based on an understanding called the Three Principles —  has had remarkable results in  offering peace and wellbeing to those suffering from depression, grief, anxiety, stress, trauma, PTSD, and other diagnostic labels for mental distress.

With decades of insight gained through our experience as clinicians, our unique work in mental health combines the essential spirituality of the Three Principles with science-based research, and a practical approach to guiding others to peace and wellbeing.

Building on the insights of philosopher, and long-time personal mentor, Sydney Banks, we offer a deeply spiritual understanding of mental health.

Our approach is grounded in what Syd called the “Three Principles”— the gifts of Mind, Thought, and Consciousness — that are universal to all human beings.

The Three Principles are not prescriptive, they are descriptive. In other words, they tell us how the gifts behind life work, but do not tell us how to use them.

Within this understanding of how life works, we have seen that everyone is formed and guided by an innate force that can heal any psychological experience and facilitate complete mental health.

Although we might, at times, feel very broken, we are all made of a universal essence that can never be broken. This same essence provides all we need to come through any life experience, no matter how difficult.

Never Broken. Nothing Lacking.

A Spiritual Approach to Mental Health

The Three Principles are based on the insights of philosopher Sydney Banks, who articulated three elemental, truths, or principles, that create and govern all human experience: Mind, Thought, and Consciousness.

Syd described Mind as “the universal intelligence behind life,” Consciousness as what “creates an awareness of what we call reality,” and Thought as “the power to create our moment to moment existence.”

Syd’s understanding of these essential principles pointed to a natural human resilience, and our ability to experience complete wellbeing.

This profound and hope-filled understanding has resonated with thousands of Three Principles students worldwide, creating a vibrant community of teachers, healers, and practitioners sharing their experience of the peace and wisdom that lie within.

Our work as teachers and clinicians sharing this understanding is well-established; impacting those within the Three Principles community as mentors, as well as engaging fellow clinicians with our unique blend of clinical expertise and spiritual insight.

The fundamental assumptions guiding our innovative approach to mental health are:

  • There are Three Universal Principles (Mind, Thought and Consciousness) that explain life and how we experience it.
  • Understanding these Three Principles brings increasing freedom from painful memories, present challenges, and future uncertainties.
  • We are born with mental health and it can never be damaged or lost.
  • Wisdom, love and understanding are the core elements of mental well-being and resilience.
  • The innocent misuse of the power of Thought is at the root of all human suffering.

Though these statements may seem far-fetched at first glance, the impact they can have on your well-being is profound.

We both have over 35 years of experience helping people integrate this very understanding through gentle, facilitated, exploration, and we’d be honoured to guide you on this journey too.
